The Summer of Big Changes

This past summer had in store some big changes for me. Not only did I leave my career as an animal care professional after 16 years in the field, but I moved to an organization that was very different than I was used to (in a positive way!), and into a very different career. These past 4 months I have not only lead fishing and kayaking on over 40 programs, but I have gotten to see western PA in a totally new light.

From sunny summer days on the North Shore to sunset from the Allegheny River, so many of the experiences of the past season were views I never thought I would see. Until this year my form of kayaking had always been on lakes/calm water. Going out on the 3 rivers had never crossed my mind, even more so I didn't know where to launch the kayak from.

Overall between work and personal trips, I got to kayak and fish in PA at Millvale, Sharpsburg, North Park, Wisecarver Reservoir, Moraine State Park, Treasure Lake, above Lock 9 at Cowansville, Peter's Creek, Rice's Landing, Bald Edge State Park, Crooked Creek, and North Shore.

I scouted out some programs for next year, kayak fishing at Wisecarver Reservoir. The water is super calm and quiet and bass everywhere! I fished briefly with a basic artificial lure (honestly meant for sunfish) and caught this young bass within 5 minutes of casting.

I was also able to get back into my love for just nature photography, which I haven't had the capacity to do for a few years.
